Author

Matt Schiffman

After four decades in financial services, Matt Schiffman realized that his most valuable collection wasn’t found in any portfolio—it was the notebooks where he’d been gathering story ideas for years. Upon retiring, he finally pulled out one of those weathered journals and turned a long-cherished concept into his debut novel, Into the Sun, published in 2024.

From his home in Central California, Matt draws inspiration from his passion for history, travel, good food, and classic cinema—all elements that naturally weave into his storytelling. His patient approach to both collecting and crafting stories reflects a fundamental truth he learned from decades of investing: the best results come to those who think long-term, whether building wealth or creating compelling narratives.

Food Truck Killer

Oscar Day thought he’d left his past behind when he traded his high-powered tech career for a food truck serving gourmet grilled cheese. But when women who visit his truck start turning up dead Oscar realizes his reinvention has attracted a predator.

As cryptic messages taunt Oscar and bodies pile up, he teams up with detective Sara Meadows to form an uneasy alliance to lure the killer into the open. But in this deadly game of cat and mouse, they’ll soon discover they’re not the only ones hunting—and they might not be the only ones being hunted.

Food Truck Killer Serves Up 5 Star Suspense

No sophomore slump for Schiffman. This wild ride from LA to Seattle by way of Santa Barbara is an edge-of-your-seat thriller. There is no predictability about these characters. You have to wait to see what is around the bend as their intricate stories evolve. Sara Meadows back story builds a believable foundation for her to be our flawed heroine. Sara Meadow has a future in my library!

Hunger for More!

As the story unfolded and clues were revealed, I found myself making perditions only to find out there was more to the story. The settings throughout the book captured my attention as it weaved through Manhattan to Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and Seattle. Once you have read the book, you will hunger for more!  Keep the novels coming!

Into the Sun

1938. The world was still reeling from Amelia Earhart’s disappearance a year earlier when another aviation mystery unfolded. Pan American Airways’ Hawaii Clipper vanished en route to Manila, just as Japan’s military is flexing its muscles.

Into the Sun reimagines these events from the perspective of Hiroyuki Tajima, a man torn by an inner conflict. As the product of a Japanese father and Chinese mother, he carries a deep sense of shame towards his Japanese heritage. When his beloved maternal grandmother pleads for him to transport money to China in support of their country’s struggle, he reluctantly agrees. Little does he know that this decision will lead him to a fateful journey on the doomed flight, where he begins to suspect his fellow passengers aren’t all they seem.

“Into the Sun” is an outstanding debut novel that masterfully blends meticulous research with compelling storytelling. This book is a remarkable effort and a must-read for anyone interested in historical fiction and aviation history. I look forward to the next book!
